Paranoia 5'10 x 18 7/8 x 2 3/8 26.5L
When I think about what a performance shortboard should do, two words come to mind: effortless and reliable. The Paranoia perfectly embodies both.
The Paranoia is the most controlled, reactive surfboard I’ve ever ridden. It was the first board that truely disappeared under my feet and made surfing feel effortless. At high speeds this board excels, performing tight maneuvers with control and precision. The smooth rocker and heavy double concave in between the fins produces great drive and projection. However, large powerful waves are not the only place this board shines.
Shockingly, the Paranoia can perform in cruddy, waist waves as well. This came as a complete surprise to me when one of my team riders decided to take it out for a surf in waves I would have imagined to be unsurfable on such a narrow, rockered out shape. When he came back and said it surfed just as well in bigger waves I was shocked.
I didn't believe him so I took it out for myself in blown out waist high waves and to my surprise the board felt drivey, flying through sections and maneuvering in tight, small sections with ease.
The paranoia is a true quiver killer for someone looking to surf a high performance thruster whenever they possibly can. It has been tested in the perfect beach breaks of Nicaragua, massive, hollow reefs of Indonesia, heavy tubes in the Outer Banks, and small waves in Wilmington, NC.
